As stated before, we did alot of traveling this fall season... Last summer event was heading to our beach retreat with the Campus Ministry team and some dear friends.

School started, had a few work things going on, travelled to Lexington to hang out with Tara, Stacy and K-bug, Cinci for Barrett's bday, celebrated Todd and Chaslynn's beautiful wedding, celebrated birthdays in Murray (and said goodbye to DQ for the season), coordinated a wedding, had a fall weekend at home with my parents/sister, then took a big fat break over halloween.  Phew! It was fun to be together in all of our travels and I couldn't be more thankful that we have such incredible family, friends, co-workers, and community in our lives.

Ben, Barrett, Jeannie and Katherine came down Labor day weekend. This boy LOVES his cars.

Roll tide.

day out with K-bug... Monkey Joes and Chick-Fil-A for the win :) :)

Amelia Wren Hartline... Born on September 4, 2014 to Jill and Logan. So thankful for our sweet friends and their sweet family!!

She even helped Poppa paint his ;)

Happy Saturday :)

I started writing this post on September 10... and now it's November 4th... Eek.

Instead of 4 really long and in depth posts, I'm gonna hit the highlights. Ready? Go.

1. Ellie Holcomb is awesome and her song 'Marvelous Light' brought my soul life and joy in a season of desperation.

2. This season has been crazy... we travelled/had plans/were at weddings every weekend from August through October. Eek. I feel us hibernating now, and it's glorious.  Looking forward to Thanksgiving and the holidays though :) :)

3. It's odd to not be in the Christmas spirit yet, but am feeling really thankful to be LOVING this beautiful fall. Have the trees always been so beautiful? I don't think I've ever noticed them like this before.

4. I went to a conference yesterday... It was awesome... I will write another post on that entirely.

Happy Tuesday :)

two years.

I can still remember every moment two years ago... from waking up to a message from a dear friend... to getting ready with my sweet friends and family... to the moment the doors opened and I saw Andrew... to my ecstatic emotions during our sweet ceremony... to dancing with friends and singing "happy birthday" to our sweet flower girl.

But better than our wedding day as been the past two years... learning, growing, and loving life with my sweet Andrew. How did we get so lucky to be on this journey together? Not sure. But I'm still thankful.

A few things we've learned this year (and I guess some last year):

1. Seasons of busy-ness come and go... having home as a safe haven together is crucial.

2. "Cleaning" the house as compared to "Picking Up" are two very different things and need to communicated clearly (i.e. don't say "clean" if I just mean "tidy")

3. Finding space at home for separate time is really hard... but worth finding.

4. Hating UT and Auburn is maybe just as important as loving Alabama.

5. I didn't know what it meant to be a teammate until we got married... now I realize how much I NEED a teammate and how important it is for me to BE the teammate Andrew needs.

Happy Anniversary to us :)

ps. I give all credit on "things we learned" idea to Andrea Hardison ;) Sorry I stole it, but I loved it too much not to ;)

I think I use this blog more for internal processing (which for us extroverts is posting all thoughts publicly), rather than for life updates and important opinions on topics that end up on Facebook. Maybe soon I'll post my own "30 things to do before you're 30"... who's to say.

All that aside... things have been a little crazy lately.  Not in a 'we have five kids, four jobs, and I'm running for public office" kind of crazy... but a "where have the last four months gone" kind of crazy.  I think I blinked on New Years Eve and when I opened my eyes, it was the last week of the semester and the weather had gone from -6 & itchy to 98 & muggy.  That's how I feel.  Like I blinked and it was over... but somehow I was REALLY exhausted by the blink.

In the midst of chaos, though, my husband has been a saint. His patience and grace go beyond description and even in the depths of my ugliness, he still chooses to pursue me and lead us towards peace, confidence, and grace.

We were spending time with some of our closest friends the other night (ate spaghetti on our porch, crammed around a little table as the dinosaur beetles swarmed around us... it was magical. really) and Andrew put to words an emotion I hadn't been able to grasp.  He said "We've just been out of rhythm."

I think in that moment, it hit me that I have been out of rhythm... My soul has been out of rhythm and that out-of-rhythm-ness is almost suffocating.  That out-of-rhythm starts when I cut out a moment of margin, grows when I don't take time to be QUIET and trust, and flourishes when I let Satan convince me that fear, doubt, and emptiness will defeat me.

The next morning, after a good little cry, I did feel better... and when I got to work this is what was waiting for me:

"I, the Creator of the Universe, am with you and for you. What more could you need? When you feel some lack, it is because you are not connecting with Me at a deep level.  I offer abundant Life; your part is to trust Me, refusing to worry about anything.

It is not so much adverse events that make you anxious as it is your thoughts about those events. Your mind engages in efforts to take control of a situation, to bring about the result you desire. Your thoughts close in on the problem like ravenous wolves. Determined to make things go your way, you forget that I am in charge of your life. The only remedy is to switch your focus from the problem to My Presence. Stop all your striving, and watch to see what I will do. I am the Lord!"

Uhhhh okay okay geez!!!

I want to be deeply connected with God. To know him and to be known BY Him.  I want to live in a rhythm where the out-of-rhythm-ness is followed by a deep connection with God and an overwhelming awareness of His presence.  And you know what? Sometimes processing that on the internet makes it real... makes it a goal rather than an afterthought and kinda kick-starts the out-of-rhythm-ness to get back on track.

Happy Thursday :) (Sorry I went all deep on you there for a bit.)

A few weeks ago Andrew and I got to travel with some sweet friends, Josh and April, to Snowshoe, WV to ski for a few days!!! Andrew, sweet man that he is, surprised me with skis for Christmas and they had only gotten to be used at Perfect North (no offense, Lawrenceburg, still love you) but we were REALLY looking forward to going somewhere a little bit bigger! We had been there once before (my first real time skiing... which was mildly horrible because I was so bad. I fell. Alot. And then some more.) It was so much fun to have a little getaway and spend time with some of our closest friends!! :)

It was a snowy winter wonderland.

Yes, I was trying to dress up as Bane on the mountain ;)

Loved the week with my love. Man, he is WAY better than me at all things sports, and his snowboarding is no different. Whatever. :)

Sweet boys making our lunches (or dinner. or both haha.)

Love these two alot and so thankful for them!!!

It was SUCH a beautiful place!!! So thankful for all the beautiful snow, since Nashville has apparently been cursed by the snow gods (joke. I know there aren't snow gods.).  We said bye (well, I literally said goodbye and Andrew waved from afar) to our snow gear and packed it all away. Until next year, skis!!

Happy Beautiful Wednesday :) :)

friends. family. holiday recap.

It's not really an update because there isn't much to report, but here's a recap of the past few months via pictures :) Been such a fun/reflective/restful/busy season. Thankful for such incredible friends, amazing family, and my sweet love that makes every season something to celebrate.

Sweet sweet friends that we've gotten to do life with, and learn so much from!

Thanksgiving in Cincinnati :) Love that place so so much and so thankful for getting to spend it with sweet friends!!!

Love this little boy SO much.

Shelby Smith took some incredible (maybe I am bias) pictures for us. She is SO talented and was so sweet to take our pics on the coldest day ever (maybe I am exaggerating).

Ventured to Home Depot and got our second little Christmas Tree :) It was magical.

Lots of cookie decorating with sweet friends, and Santa came

Nick, Meredith and the Girls celebrate with us at OUR new place! It was REALLY fun to have them over and get to celebrate together :) Jenna and Grace Anne are so sweet and LOVE my Andrew.

Christmas in Murray! Santa came to visit Christmas Eve.

Little angel baby tuckered after Christmas morning!

So fun to watch her grow up and learn and notice things!! We built this house in the living room and it was SUCH a hit. But only a few were welcome inside... Elmo, of course, being top of the list.
Jo? (her baby doll) not so much... She got thrown out the door after this pic.

:) :) :)

We went to Flat Creek for the Farrar Christmas and we got to take some flowers to Nanny's grave with Gramps. Really special to see Gramps love Nanny in every moment...
Beautiful image of God's desire for us!!!

On the way to Cinci Christmas, we stopped by Perfect North for the day! :) A little tradition we started last year. Love my love (and apparently his crazy hair in this picture).

Spending the week in Cincinnati was so fun. Little Barrett LOVES his Uncle Andrew and will say both of our names! He's so sweet and his little grin dimples are precious.

if this doesn't give somebody baby fever, I don't know what would.

Loves Uncle Andrew :) :) :) :)

:) :) :)

Got to celebrate AGAIN with dear friends :) So glad we could be together!!

yes, this is Shauna Neiquist. Yes, you should read her books. Yes, we got to hang out with her.
Yes, it was awesome.

That's all for now! :) Happy Monday, people! :)
If it's not gonna snow, BRING ON SPRING :) :) :)
